Observing Lent
Join us at Sojourn as we observe Lent, a special season in the Church calendar for prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Historically the Church has observed this season as a means of preparing for the Easter celebration. Over the six weeks of Lent, we will lean in together as a church body. We will fast. We will pray. We will hear sermons and gather for learning spaces that will be focused on this season, its elements, and its blessings.
We invite you to join us in observing Lent in three ways:
Ash Wednesday: You can do this by attending our Ash Wednesday service on February 18th. This date and gathering is the beginning of Lent and an opportunity for us to acknowledge our mortality, as well as our need for repentance. On this day we remember the words from Genesis 3:19, “For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Pray and Fast: You can also pray and fast with us. You can do this on your own, or you can participate with us on Tuesdays. Starting on Tuesday, February 24th and continuing for every Tuesday during Lent, we will pray and fast together as a church body. We will observe a fast from sunrise to sunset, and the church building will be open from 12 pm -1 pm for prayer.
Learning Spaces: Finally, you can attend our February and March learning spaces. The focus of these spaces will be the season of Lent, as well as the practices of fasting and prayer. If Lent or any of these practices are new to you, confusing even, or not a part of your discipleship to Jesus, then these spaces will be an especially blessed time for you.
