Family Advocacy MinistrY

What is Family Advocacy Ministry?

"Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause."
Isaiah 1:17

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world."

James 1:27

Table On Delk

Gather around the table at Table on Delk to help serve and mentor women in our community affected by sex trafficking. Many of these women have children living with them in extended stay hotels on Delk road. You can see all the ways you can serve at Table on Delk here

As followers of Christ, we are called to love our neighbor, including the most vulnerable - orphans and widows.  Our Family Advocacy Ministry’s mission is to love, serve, and meet the needs of women and children who are either at-risk of entering the foster care system, are currently in the foster care system, as well foster and/or adoptive families. Many of these families have experienced or been affected by trauma and often these families do not have a lot of outside support even for daily needs. That is where the Family Advocacy Ministry (FAM) comes in and walks alongside these families as they navigate either fighting poverty and keeping their family together or adjusting to a new child in the family who has been separated from their biological family and helping the child heal from trauma.

There are many incredible organizations in Cobb County serving vulnerable women and children and we have partnered with the following organizations in order to minister to the community around us:

Opportunities to Serve

Brumby Elementary School

Brumby Elementary School is a Title I school less than a mile from Sojourn and their community includes many families who are vulnerable and struggling. By helping the teachers at Brumby get their lesson plans and supplies for class ready, you allow the teachers more space to care for these precious children where their class may be the only consistent thing in their life.

You can sign up here to serve in the school workroom. You can sign up just one time or you can sign up for multiple weeks. It’s completely flexible.

 Family Advocacy Ministry Opportunities

  • Sojourn Church desires to serve our local community and what better way than through the local school! Each Thursday we have volunteers serve in the teacher workroom helping with making copies, laminating and a cutting and any other project support the teachers need.

We will serve every Thursday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm each semester.

You can sign up to volunteer here.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Maggie Greenwood.

  • Sojourn has an amazing opportunity to serve kids in the classroom at Brumby by providing one-on-one readying support or small group math support through fun activities and games.

Be on the lookout for the new sign-up when school starts back in August!

  • Sojourn Church has partnered with Promise686 and TogetherWithFamilies to create FAM teams to support families in our community who are at-risk of their kids entering the foster care system.

We are currently looking to create our third FAM team and we would love your support! Click here to learn more about FAM at Sojourn!
